Srikakulam Flood Assessment
Nagavali and Vamsadhara discharge-scenario flood extents on Srikakulam's current district, mandal and village boundaries, with rivers, observed and forecast rain, upstream catchments, and mandal and village vulnerability. River, barrage and rain readings update every 15 minutes. The flood extents and village lists are fixed study scenarios, not a forecast.

Upstream catchments
Most of the Vamsadhara and Nagavali catchments lie in Odisha, so much of the rain that drives these rivers falls outside the district. The map shows the CWC flood-forecast catchments with their river networks and gauges. The tables give observed rain from DES gauges on the Andhra Pradesh side, IMD's model forecasts (WRF 3 km and GFS) averaged over each whole catchment including Odisha, and IMD MME over the Andhra Pradesh part. CWC's river forecasts remain the guide to river levels.

* No GSWS link: the study's Census 2011 count for the flooded part of the village or town at this level. <5: fewer than five, not shown to protect privacy. –: age groups are not shown for villages with fewer than 50 people. Vulnerability is the village's quintile within Srikakulam (see notes).
How this was built
- Boundaries are the current (post-2022) district, mandal and village boundaries: Srikakulam has its mandals in the Srikakulam, Tekkali and Palasa divisions.
- Flood extents are the SEOC flood-scenario study's discharge-scenario polygons. Levels are cusecs at the reference structure: Gotta Barrage for the Vamsadhara and Thotapalli Barrage for the Nagavali. The Thotapalli reference is a best-judgement choice already used by the portal's alert engine. The extents are scenarios, not forecasts.
- Village counts and people follow the study's own village lists, matched by LGD code. Those lists also include every village bordering the river channel, at every level. People are GSWS household-survey persons, aggregated to villages. Where a village or town has no GSWS link (the Srikakulam municipal area, for one), the study's Census 2011 count is used; for towns it covers only the flooded part and grows with discharge. The whole village is counted, so these are exposure figures, not casualty estimates. Village counts from 1 to 4 are shown as "<5", and age groups are not shown for villages with fewer than 50 people; the scenario totals and the mandal table leave those withheld counts out.
- Flooded area and mandal attribution come from overlaying the flood polygons on current boundaries. At village level this overlay agrees with the study lists for about 80% of villages; the rest differ because of boundary edits since the study. The Vamsadhara and Nagavali extents do not overlap inside Srikakulam, so combined figures are simple sums. A few higher-discharge extents do not fully contain the lower ones; each level is shown as supplied.
- Rivers and catchments: named rivers, the catchment-wide river networks of the flood-forecast models and minor streams come from the state water-resources layers. Catchments are CWC's flood-forecast catchments.
- River levels and barrages: observed and forecast levels at Gunupur, Kashinagar and Srikakulam are from CWC FloodWatch; barrage outflows are from WRD APWRIMS; alert levels are from the portal's alert engine. Readings more than 12 hours old are marked "old".
- Observed rain is from the APSDPS/DES automatic rain gauges in the district. The feed is a running total that resets at 08:30 IST, so each bar is a rain-day ending 08:30 on that date, and the last bar, "Today (so far)", is the rain-day still in progress: the running total from its 08:30 start to the latest reading. Mandal values are the mean of the gauges inside each mandal; a mandal without a gauge uses a distance-weighted mean of the nearest gauges.
- Forecast rain: mandal values are IMD's multi-model ensemble (MME) block forecast, matched from IMD's pre-2022 block names to the current mandals. District values show IMD MME and IMD GFS. For the catchments, observed rain is the mean of the DES gauges inside each catchment on the Andhra Pradesh side, and the forecast is the IMD MME block forecast weighted by area over the Andhra Pradesh part; for each whole catchment, Odisha part included, APSDMA averages the rain of IMD's WRF 3 km and GFS model runs (from IMD's NWP data service) over every grid point inside the catchment, for rain-days ending 08:30 IST, refreshed when IMD posts a new run. A day that a model run covers only partly is marked with its hours. CWC's river-level forecasts remain the guide to river levels.
- Vulnerability: the mandal flood-risk class and scores (hazard, exposure, vulnerability, capacity) come from the APSDMA mandal flood-risk index, and social vulnerability from the mandal social vulnerability index. The village index uses GSWS household-survey aggregates: the shares of children 0–5 and of people aged 75 and over are each ranked across Srikakulam villages with at least 50 people (a listed village with fewer than 5 children aged 0–5 is left out and shows no class), the two percentiles are averaged, and villages are grouped into quintiles. It is a relative ranking within the district, not an absolute score.
